Alexa Beattie

Scottish violist Alexa Beattie was born in Edinburgh and started her music career at 5 years old on the piano. She gained her Undergraduate and Masters degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Whilst in London she was a recipient of the City of London’s String Quartet Prize. She holds the prestigious Artist’s Certificate in Chamber Music from San Francisco Conservatory.

Alexa has taught Graduate and Doctoral level students at the Universities of Wisconsin and California in New Music Residencies. Further experience has included chamber music teaching for San Francisco Conservatory and San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.

Alexa's experience with young string players has included outreach work in London and California and competition adjudication for young people. She was a workshop leadership apprentice with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has worked with parents and children as young as 2 years old in the Wigmore Hall 'Chamber Tots' programme.

Alexa is interested in aspects of child development which informs her teaching. She focuses primarily on developing healthy technique and helping her students to understand independently how to better their playing from a young age. Alexa currently runs the Beginning Strings program at Munich International School.
